Do You Need to Test or Retest?
Are you nervous about taking a pregnancy test because you’re afraid of the result? Perhaps you’ve already taken a test but aren’t sure you received the correct result. We understand.
Your first step to confirming your pregnancy is taking a pregnancy test. Let us help you.
Free and Confidential Pregnancy Testing
Our lab-quality pregnancy tests are always free and confidential. A nurse will discuss your situation, advise you on properly taking the test, and then read the results.
Depending on what she finds, she will review your options. She may even recommend a free limited obstetrical ultrasound.
How Does a Pregnancy Test Work?
When a woman becomes pregnant, she produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone builds rapidly, eventually entering her urine and bloodstream. If a pregnancy test detects hCG in a woman’s urine or blood, she’s most likely pregnant.
When Should You Test?
Experts recommend not taking a pregnancy test until the first day after your missed period. This gives the hCG hormone time to rise to a detectable level.
If your period is usually irregular, you may want to wait four or five days. It is possible to get a false result on a test. For instance, your period could be late, but the test is negative. You need to wait a few days longer and test again.
Although rare, getting a positive result and not being pregnant is also possible. Experts estimate that over one in four pregnancies ends in a miscarriage. You could potentially get a positive test result but no longer be pregnant.
The Test Is Positive, Now What?
Your next step after a positive pregnancy test result is an ultrasound. An ultrasound can confirm if your pregnancy is growing or if you have had a miscarriage. One of our caring client advocates can discuss your situation and walk you through your options.
